Opposite extremes of emotion will be forever entwined by recent events in the artist's life: an invitation from Prince Nithakong Somsanith for an artist residency in Laos coinciding with the sudden devastating loss of a parent. June Sekiguchi creates a site-specific installation in scroll-cut wood and gilded bamboo - a temple of transcendence, sorrow and joy - with responsive sound and light elements by Rob Millis and Spar Wilson.
Dramatic new wall-hung sculptures show the continual evolution of Sekiguchi's explorations in scroll-cut wood: a bird's wing, a monk's robe, or a river's bend interpreted in mysterious layers of pattern and shadow.
June Sekiguchi's artist residency was supported in part by 4Culture.
