In 2006, I initiated a vigorous shift in my studio practice and began engaging in a playfully eidetic approach. By forgetting my hand and adopting an outsider aesthetic, I was able to dissolve away any soberness in my work and welcome childlike vulnerability. At first, the results startled me. Little by little though, as I began to share the images with both friends and strangers they began to reveal to me their personal connections to particular characters. This shared experience breathed new life into my work and it initiated a deeper connection to a state of otherness. |
